From Athlete’s Dream to Healing Journey

My Dream
From a very young age, it was my dream to be a professional athlete. I grew up a disciplined gym rat and three sport athlete all the way through high school. After college, I became an elite level rugby player and track cyclist for a combined 10 years, earning a national championship medal in both disciplines. Unfortunately since high school football, I was also contending with a very serious chronic injury called cervical spinal stenosis. This condition is very painful, debilitating and potentially life threatening. In fact, I was temporarily paralyzed on the rugby field from it, instantly ending any hope I had left of being a professional athlete.
Became A Need
This complex injury turned my life upside down forcing a desperate need in me to get out of chronic pain and danger fast. I went back to college to study anatomy and physiology (particularly the spine and Nervous System), took every prerequisite class for Physical Therapy, and earned a BS in Biology at Hunter College. At the same time, I was working at my father’s medical center, personal training some of his very ill and/or deconditioned patients.
My father, an experienced MD, ran a medical wellness center which took a wholistic approach to health and rehabilitative wellness. This was exactly the environment I needed to be in since all conventional methods of treatment were either short lived fixes or too risky to consider. While I worked there, I got to collaborate with his fellow Physicians and PTs about highly specific corrective exercises and treatment modalities that helped many patients get their lives back. I also managed the supplement department, collaborated with an experienced dietician, and developed a solid understanding of nutrition, vitamins and supplements and their role in healing as well.
To Help Others
I strongly identified with many of my father’s patients because I knew what it was like to feel trapped in my pain. Once I was finally able to heal myself with proper exercise, nutrition, sleep, spiritual practice, etc., I was then able to share with them the secrets that have helped me along the way. It felt really good to help others get out of pain! I never thought my own healing journey would lead me to a new passion and career path but helping others became a therapeutic practice, giving me a new lease on life.
Thrive
Chronic pain and limitations are often unique from person to person, and require a customized approach to moving past them. In your initial complimentary assessment, we will sit down and attempt to understand your injuries and limitations through your history. I will then perform a standard functional assessment and address any limitations in strength, mobility and any other imbalances I may see. Finally, I will take all of my findings from your assessment and create a program tailored to your specific needs and goals. This will include customized exercises, a meal plan, homework/cardio, and possibly other modalities that when executed correctly, will undoubtedly help you heal and ultimately achieve your goals. From there, my workouts will challenge you and allow you to move about the world, mobile, strong, and confident. You got this!
Sometimes getting healthy can feel like a daunting task, however with a little patience and small pragmatic steps forward, you can get your life back. I know because I did it. I learned so much from my life experience and now it’s time to pass it on. I will always be learning and collaborating about newer better ways to help you achieve your goals. That is my promise to you. This call is our opportunity to get to know each other. We’ll deep-dive into your goals, motivations, and injury history and review your past and current workout routines. We’ll also explore the nuanced areas of your life that may be impacting your training and health. You can ask any remaining questions, and I’ll share exactly where I think we need to start your customized fitness journey.
Complimentary Assessment

Your complimentary 60-minute session is a chance to work with me in person, get a feel for my personality and coaching approach, and experience the type of exercises and intensity that will be included in your program. This session is divided into half assessment and half workout. It allows me to evaluate your movement, strengths, and weaknesses firsthand. This comped session is our springboard for igniting your transformation!

Individual training sessions are available, and small group sessions (up to 4 people) can also be arranged. Each program is personalized to ensure every participant receives focused guidance, attention, and results.

Exercise Protocol
Each session is designed around your body’s current abilities and long-term goals. With focused progression, form correction, and strategic intensity, we strengthen movement patterns while minimizing risk of injury. Every step is measured, safe, and effective — because progress must be sustainable.
Nutritional Guidance
Food is fuel, and understanding it is key to performance and recovery. I provide practical nutrition guidance — not extreme diets — built around real-life routines. You’ll learn how to make simple, lasting changes that support your training, metabolism, and overall well-being.
Cardio/Homework Recommendations
Your results continue beyond the gym. I provide structured cardio plans and at-home movement routines to reinforce what we achieve together. These sessions are efficient, adaptable, and essential to maintaining momentum between training days.
Accountability
The quality of a program is only as good as the quality of its execution. I’ll be there every step of the way — making adjustments, tracking your progress, and celebrating milestones. All you have to do is show up each time and give it your all!

Jon is the best! I was hesitant to spend the money on a trainer but decided to bite the bullet after an initial phone call and meeting. Jon was amazing to work with right from the start. I have a herniated disc in my neck that I get very nervous about but Jon is really well informed about injuries and just body issues in general. Though my youngest baby is 4, Jon also shared some really helpful insights about postpartum body changes.
Jon is hilarious and so fun to work with but also really good at what he does. I saw a difference in my strength really quickly and my stomach started feeling flatter within weeks of working with him – and that is no small feat.

Great attention to detail and ensuring that you get the return that you want on your investment. I am in my 80s and with Jon I have developed the strength I need for my daily routine. One example: arm strength to hold on to the rails in buses. Very important because I often take buses and they rock back and forth.

I started with Jon Linchitz barely 8 weeks ago and I am super impressed at the way his strength training program has taken me from barely able to complete a 10 lb set of Goblet squats to doing a set of 65 lb back squats, in only 16 sessions, among many other progressive weight exercises.
Granted that I had some training before the pandemic with a different trainer at another gym, so l came in with some experience and a faint memory of the proper techniques. After being away from the gym for 3 1/2 years, I had very little expectations and no timeline for myself. I knew I was grossly out of shape, but vowed just to show up and see what happened. I’m glad I found Jon on Yelp and that he promptly called me back. I decided to go in for his free assessment and I was sold on his 20+ years of experience and kind, respectful demeanor. Plus great tips for stretching, fueling and recovery. Sports lab is a great gym to practice at too! It’s well equipped and always clean.

Where I Train
Training at NYC's Premier Private Facility
I train all my students at Sports Lab NYC, New York's newest, largest, and best-equipped private training facility. This state-of-the-art gym is centrally located in Manhattan at 295 Madison Avenue, with a private entrance on 41st Street (between Madison and Park Avenue South). It provides a full locker room and complimentary towel service.
There is no monthly membership cost for the gym.
